  • Leading Edge Exhaust Questions.

Hi, my '59 PA 22/20 Pacer has 400 hours on Factory Lycoming, but 2,400 on the exhaust, except for the 400 hr "new" stock muffler. The "new" muffler had a crack at the can/ exit pipe.  If your LEE system is a better design than original, and it appears to be, I would be interested in replacing my stock system.

Yes, it is definitely a better design. It is made from 321 stainless steel to take the heating and cooling expansion better. The materials used are 40 percent thicker. The clamps are of a much better design and easer to install. Other benefits Are increases in power, economy and cooler temperatures. The stacks are farther from the cowl and the muffler has much more clearance from the firewall and engine making it much easier to remove the shroud for inspection. The cabin heat hook up is the same as original with plenty of heat for the cabin and the right hand risers provide heat for the carburetor.

And how’s this, the Leading Edge Exhaust System comes with a 10yr 1,000 hr warranty (transferable when you sell your aircraft).

Does this system have slip joints at the muffler/ exit pipe as well?

It does have slip joints with clamps for the risers to muffler and from the muffler to the exit pipe.

My pacer does have the 180 hp O-360 is that a problem?

Absolutely not the STC was originally started to cover specifically the O-360 in a Pacer and the Tripacer.

Does it include the muffler?

Yes, in fact it includes everything to install this system. All you need are your hand tools. We even send you new nuts and no blow gaskets not the cheesy copper sandwiching a gasket material whatever it is.

Does it void the 50/100 hour muffler AD?

Not yet. We are in the process to be like the PA-18 and PA-12. The AD portion that deals with removing the stacks and exit pipe will no longer apply, but the shroud will still need to be opened to inspect the external part of the muffler during a 100-hr/annual inspection the same as any muffler. But remember with this muffler there’s much more clearance from the fire wall and back of the engine making it much easier to open for that inspection.

Anyone have any experience with the Leading Edge exhaust system?

As for the system it self, I have had mine for three years in my PA22-20-150 and it is great. Due to the well balanced equal length primary tubes and the shape of the muffler, it fits much better into the engine compartment and runs cooler (the oval shaped muffler is an inch or so away from the firewall) and of course, there is a performance improvement, I saw about 100 RPM on the tach, with cooler head temps. I like the exhaust I guess the question is what is the price?

            $3795.00.

How long will it take before I get my exhaust?

The response for this product has been very good making delivery about 2-3 weeks. To put one on order we need 40% down and the balance before we ship.

Is the STC valid for the 290-D2?

No, but if there is enough interest we may include it.

Will it fit the 290-D2 engine?

Yes it will fit the O-290- D2. But it is not STC’d.

Can it likely be field approved with a 337?

It most likely can, but we haven’t done it.

Can you send me some info; pictures etc and I will apply for a field approval to use the exhaust system on a my O-290/colt<< a copy of the STC would help.

Please contact me by phone and I will be glade to work with you on It. Wayne 801-920-4518.

How much does it weigh?

It adds 2.6 lbs. and the C.G. is unchanged.
